Hotels are latest victim of credit card breach

MERRILLVILLE, Ind. (KTRK) — The latest victims in a growing list of security breaches are the popular hotel chains Hilton, Marriott, Sheraton, and Westin
Security researcher Brian Krebs says hotel guests’ credit and debit card information were exposed in 2013, but only certain hotels were hacked. The ones that were managed by the company White Lodging were targeted.
Some of the Marriott hotels where information was compromised include Austin, Chicago, Denver, Los Angeles, Louisville, and Tampa.
White Lodging issued a statement Sunday night after the breach was first made public. “An investigation is in progress, and we will provide meaningful information as soon as it becomes available,” White Lodging said.
The company has not said how many customers may be affected.  Since Target fell victim to one of the largest security breaches in history, several businesses have also had their customers’ information stolen. Neiman Marcus said over a million of its shoppers had their cards compromised. In January, Michaels announced hackers may have made it into its system too.
