Earthquake destroys highway near U.S.-Mexico border
An unusually large number of high-profile earthquakes sprung up across the globe over the weekend, causing extensive damage to a roadway in Mexico and leaving residents shaken in southern Europe, Egypt and the U.S. Saturday, an earthquake near the Mexico – U.S. border collapsed chunks of this 300-yard stretch of highway. 

Earthquake near Naples shakes much of southern Italy
Italy’s National Institute of Geophysics and Volcanology said the quake at 6:08 p.m. (1708 GMT) had a magnitude of 4.9 and struck some 10.5 kilometres underground. Its epicenter was roughly 55 kilometres northeast of Naples.  
2 quakes jolt northern Ilocos Norte town
Two successive earthquakes jolted the northern town of Burgos in Ilocos Norte province early morning Tuesday, one registered at magnitude 4.2 while the other at magnitude 4, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) said.  
Southern California Earthquake Today 2013 Strikes East of Los Angeles
Officials tell news that a 3.7 magnitude Southern California earthquake today just started moments ago, a bit after 3:44 PM local time. The quake had a moderate depth. USGS indicates to news that the quake started twelve miles below ground level. As a result, its impact is limited to the immediate region.  
A 5.4-magnitude quake hits eastern Japan
A shallow 5.4-magnitude earthquake hit eastern Japan Tuesday, rocking buildings in Tokyo but there were no reports of any damage, seismologists said.

3.1 magnitude earthquake hits Lake Isabella
A 3.1 magnitude earthquake struck the town at about 7:45 a.m. Wednesday. Since then, there have been at least four aftershocks throughout the day. 

6.6-magnitude earthquake reported in Vanuatu
The U.S. Geological Survey says a 6.6-magnitude earthquake has hit the South Pacific island nation of Vanuatu. The USGS report says the quake hit early Thursday local time, with the epicenter 37 kilometers (23 miles) west of the village of Sola and 443 kilometers (275 miles) north of the capital, Port Vila.  

Philippines Earthquake Today 2013 5.9 Strikes Near Burgos
Officials tell news that a 5.9 magnitude Philippines earthquake today just hit near Burgos. The quake had nominal depth as well. USGS indicates to news that the quake struck locally on January 1, 2014 just after 4:01 am. The quake posted a depth of only five miles below sea level. As a result the quake was felt across the region. 

Earthquakes in Tonga, Canary Islands and Oklahoma (Again): End of December 2013
The seven day period closing 2013 saw 1,398 tremors of all sizes in the US and its territories, and of at least M4 worldwide, but there were just 24 of M5 or more; the largest being an M5.9 in the Tonga Trench. The distribution of the larger earthquakes is broadly as expected, with the usual focus on the western Pacific Ocean. 

El Salvador begins evacuations near volcano
“We have implemented emergency measures to evacuate villages located within 3 kilometers of the volcano,” Melendez said. Shelters have been set up for the evacuees, but Melendez said some inhabitants had been loath to leave their homes. “One has to leave for one’s own safety,” he said. Assistant Health Minister Eduardo Espinoza said two people had been treated at hospitals for respiratory problems apparently linked to the eruption, “but we do not have any serious cases to report.”

El Salvador orders evacuation from volcano’s slopes
Authorities in El Salvador have resumed evacuating residents living on the slopes of the Chaparrastique volcano. The 2,130m-high (7,000 ft) volcano started erupting on Sunday morning, spewing ash and gases. Officials from the Salvadoran environment ministry said there was a risk the volcano could erupt again, this time emitting a lava flow.
