General strike against cuts brings Greece to a halt
Workers in Greece are holding a 24-hour general strike over continuing cuts as international lenders decide whether to unlock further bailout money. Flights and other transport are being disrupted by action in both the public and private sectors, and schools and hospitals are also affected. Greece has held more than 30 general strikes since early 2010.

US oil hits 5-month low on worries about supply glut
The benchmark US oil price sank to a five-month low Tuesday as traders anticipated a key report will show US supplies are continuing to pile up. New York’s main contract West Texas Intermediate for delivery in December sank $1.25 to close at $93.37 a barrel, its lowest level since early June.
